 Welcome to the 2011 - 2012 school year! 

In orchestra we strive to understand and advance

the musical gifts God has given to each child

with the use of stringed instruments.  

 

 

 

2011 - 2012 Concert Calendar for Band, Choir, and Orchestra 

 

Performance Dates:

 

November 17 - Thursday 7:00 PM - Fall Music Concert

       given by 6th through 8th grade choirs, bands and orchestras

December 16 - Friday 1:45 PM – Christmas Chapel 

       for grades K -8, in middle school gym with ensembles from 6th/7th/8th band, orchestra,

                and/or choir

January 19 - Thursday 7:00 PM – 5th Grade Band and Orchestra Concert

             (postponed to Feb 9 due to drifting snow and sub-zero temps)

        given by all 5th grade orchestra and band students in middle school gym                                              

February 7 - Tuesday 7:00 PM – 6th- 8th grades Choir Concert

           given by all 6th through 8th grade choir students in middle school gym

February 9 - Thursday 6:30 PM - 5th - 8th grades Orchestra Concert

          given by all 5th through 8th grade orchestra students in middle school gym

February 9 - Thursday 7:30 PM – 5th - 8th grades Band Concert

         given by all 5th through 8th grade band students in middle school gym

end of February  - TBD - Orchestra Festival 

          7th/8th Grade Orchestra will be joining several other middle school orchestras at a performance venue where four seasoned orchestra directors will critique our growth and musicianship.  Dutton Christian Band used to participate for years, this will be the first year Dutton Orchestra will be represented.  We covet your presence and support!

 

April 20 – Friday, during the school day – Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day

          6th/7th/8th band, orchestra and choir ensembles around lunch time in middle school

 

May 3 - Thursday 7:00 PM – 5th - 8th Spring Music Concert  

                            * * at Duncan Lake Performing Arts Center * *

         by all 5th through 8th grade bands, orchestras and choirs

 

May 24 - Thursday 1:45 PM – Pops Concert

         for K -8, in middle school gym,  6th, 7th-8th bands, choirs, & orchestras, during the school day. 

 

 

Please note: all performances are at Dutton Christian Middle School except May 3. 

     Parents are invited to all concerts. 

 

 

 

Not only do we have the privilege of learning music in the classroom,

we have the opportunity to display our work at least three times over the school year.  

Concert dates are set early and attendance for the entire concert is mandatory.  

Every member of the class is important and needed in order for the performance to work as we have rehearsed; and we also need to show support to our fellow school mates as they perform in other groups.

There will be a Fall Concert, Christmas Concert, beginning of spring concert, and end of school year concert.  We have additional performance opportunities for students, and parents are always welcome to attend!

The uniform for all students consists of the 2011-12 school theme shirt (Whatever Is..) plus khaki pants or skirt, dark socks (brown or black) and dark shoes (brown or black).  Please do not wear sandals or tennis shoes.  On the main concerts (November 17, February 9, Orchestra Festival {during the school day, possibly Feb 22} and May 3) the 7th and 8th grade students in orchestra will be asked to wear polo shirts provided by the school.

  • Graduated from Calvin College in 2001
  • Taught at Lamont Christian School, general music, bands (with strings included) and choirs
  • Have three children, one married, one in college, one in high school
  • Member of Calvin College Alumni Choir
  • Substitute for Holland Symphony
  • Enjoy playing violin, bassoon and organ
